5-4-1 Holding in FC Mobile
A back five with wing-backs, one holding midfielder, a number 10, a lone striker. Width comes from the wide midfielders. The holding version of the 5-4-1 is its own entry in Manager Mode, with its own positions. The game tags it Balanced, Five Defenders.
The 11 positions
- Goalkeeper (GK)
- Left wing-back (LWB)
- 3 x Centre-back (CB)
- Right wing-back (RWB)
- Defensive midfielder (CDM)
- Left midfielder (LM)
- Attacking midfielder (CAM)
- Right midfielder (RM)
- Striker (ST)
What 5-4-1 Holding is good at
- Three centre-backs cover the box and the gaps between them, so crosses and long balls rarely find a free runner.
- A back five (three centre-backs plus two wing-backs) is the hardest line to get behind, and it lets you hold a lead.
- One holding midfielder gives a clear anchor to recycle possession and cover for forward-running full-backs.
- A number 10 links midfield to attack and gives the striker or the front pair a passing option.
- Wide midfielders work both ways on the flank, supplying crosses and tracking back.
Where it is weak
- Only three at the back leaves the flanks to the wide midfielders or wing-backs; if they are caught up the pitch, the outside centre-backs get dragged wide.
- Five defenders means fewer players forward, so the front line can be starved of service.
- Wide midfielders are not natural finishers, so the goals have to come from the striker(s) and the runners from midfield.
- A lone striker is easy to double-mark, and an isolated number 9 can switch the attack off.

Build Up
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 2 | no pace-first front line to feed: steady tempo |
| Passing Distance | 1 | short passes through the middle, where this shape has its numbers |
| Mentality | Balanced | no tag leans it one way |
| Positioning | Organised | keep the shape; the lanes are already set |
Offence
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Passing Tendency | 1 | two central midfielders: go direct rather than recycle |
| Cross Tendency | 2 | one target in the box |
| Shooting Tendency | 2 | shoot when the lane is clear |
| Positioning | Organised | stick to lanes for cleaner counters |
Defence
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure | 2 | press in bursts |
| Width | 1 | stay compact and force play wide |
| Aggression | 2 | with five at the back, keep it at 2 and let the spare man cover |
| Back Line | Cover | an odd-numbered back line does not play offside well: stay deep |
