A back four, two holding midfielders, a number 10, a lone striker. Width comes from the wingers. This is the standard 4-2-1-3 entry in Manager Mode. The game tags it Side.

What 4-2-1-3 is good at
- Two holding midfielders shield the centre-backs and win the ball back before it reaches the back line.
- A number 10 links midfield to attack and gives the striker or the front pair a passing option.
- Wingers hold the touchline and stretch the opposing back line, so the centre of the pitch opens up for runs.
- One striker keeps the rest of the team compact and gives the midfield a clear target to feed.
- A striker flanked by two wingers is the classic front three: cut in from the wings or cross for the middle.
Where it is weak
- A lone striker is easy to double-mark, and an isolated number 9 can switch the attack off.
